Hummus is like liquid gold at our house. Sometimes it’s the only thing that will get little man to eat whatever it is I’ve made for him… just drown it in hummus and he’s all over it. But I’m totally ok with that. Hummus is the simplest thing to make and there are so many versions you can always change it up. This one is my quick and easy white bean hummus.
Hummus really is a guilt free pleasure. There are so many good things here. The beans, regardless of what kind you use, are a great sources of protein, fiber and other minerals. The tahini (sesame paste) is full of iron, calcium, B vitamins and a ton of other minerals like iron, folate and potassium. It’s filled with healthy fats with the olive oil. And there are a number of benefits from the various herbs and spices that you can toss in.
You can easily change this up with different beans and spices, depending no what you have in your pantry. Chickpeas work, of course, and try adding other spices like cayenne pepper or sumac or even a spice bend you like.
Now for the vessel. I love fresh veggies for dipping, but hummus really goes on anything. I put it on sandwiches (in lieu of other condiments with much less nutritional value; little man LOVES it on sandwiches), crackers, pita, any other crunchy snacks, on wraps, burgers, you name it.
Making it from home promises that you getting all the good ingredients, rather than any fillers or cheap oils that many of the store bought kinds (steer clear of any other oils besides avocado oil or olive oil in store bights kinds, as well as any ingredients that aren’t real food… it’s really worth just making it yourself…). I’ve got lots of other hummus varieties come in the near future so keep an eye out for those!
In the meantime, try this quick and easy white bean hummus and let me know your favorite dippers:)
