Smoothies or juice? That’s a popular question these days. I really got into juicing years ago and honestly just kind of got tired of the hassle and cleaning… it’s a lot of work. And then the more I read and studied, the more I decided that juicing maybe isn’t as great as a lot of people think it is. Don’t get me wrong, cold pressed juice is full of nutrients and a quick shot of minerals, but there are a few downsides to juicing. Two of the biggest issues I have is that it is quite the jolt of sugar to your system and you really miss out on the important fiber that fruits and vegetables have to offer. Which is why these days I am all about the smoothies. And just wait until you try this Mango Avocado Smoothie.
If you missed my rant about fiber, go back to my Pumpkin Chocolate Squares post and read all about the joys of fiber and why you need more, but my stance on fiber remains the same… and it applies here! Bottom line, you need more fiber people. So go for the smoothie!
Now there are PLENTY of unhealthy ways to make smoothies. And a lot of these smoothie places around will pile on the sugariest (is that a word???) fruit, along with MORE sugar with some sort of sweetener. Even if it’s stevia, it just isn’t necessary. If you can get used to eating fruit in its purest form you don’t need added sweetness to your smoothies.
This Mango Avocado Smoothie is so smooth and creamy (thank you avocado), so vibrantly neon green, and with just the perfect amount of sweetness from the mango, it really is amazing! Not to mention a great way to get in some greens.
Do I even need to mention how easy it is? Throw it in a blender ya’ll.
As with any smoothie, there is plenty of room to make it your own. Throw in some protein (I would suggest an unflavored kind or maybe vanilla), some vegan collagen, some MCT’s or powdered greens, go crazy!
